Day 8: Sunday, February 19th, St. Petersburg to Egmont Key

The first short stop to test us out was recommended by the owners, Egmont Key. This is a small Island not a far trek from her home and one the previous owners frequented many times. A celebratory dinner with Eugene and Pat was had the night before launch and Burgees were traded. We know there are going to be troubles and obstacles, but the systematic passing of the stewardship made us feel more confident. That and Captain Sean’s knowledge made the first mate know we would manage.

Well, the journey begins by driving right by Egmont Key because it was so close and easy. Finally, we look at each other learning the new plotter and realize we sailed right past her. So, hours later we crawled back in to anchor in the dark. The first test of our problem-solving skills. Our anchor light did not work, so, we taped a lifejacket light to the bow pulpit for the night and left the stern light on under anchor. The list of little item fixes begins.
