The Docks at Beaufort is a locally owned marina. Mike was wonderful, upon looking at my face, after the dock hand said extra days was unlikely you need to speak to the owner, he grumpily smiled at me and said, “ok”. I said, “Can I give you a hug?”, He grumpily allowed me to give him a hug and smiled cruckidly.
The last stock up at the grocery store was a hoot. The marina had loaner cars. Well, loaner cars are old cars with a million dents and scratches (who wants to pay for collision insurance for random boaters?). My loaner car had all the lights on the dash board on (low coolant, check engine, check oil…) and didnt lock. I was only going 2 miles, so, shrugged and put her into gear. I made it there and back no problem. I handed the key back at the marina and said, ” You know the car doest lock?”. Oh yes, no loaners lock, that keeps visitors from locking the keys in the car. “Ahh smart”, I reply. My car had a light on. “Only one light?”, they gasped. “If all the lights are not on we have a problem!”. I laughed, turned on my heals and wheeled my groceries to the boat.
Sean meanwhile did his last checkup on the engine and found a crimped line by the water heater and corrected that. The engine and generator are still in tip top shape.
Before we left to pick up the Papa San, Sean and I traveled to Beaufort so he could pick up a Catboat (small sailboat). We spent a quick day in the town.
So, here we are 4 months later and enjoying all the history and museums and shops the town has to offer. Great:
- Maritime Museum
- Historical House’s
- Local Artists
- Shops, shops, shops
- Restaurants
- Walking Tours
- Ferries to Islands
We ended the stay in Beaufort by going to the same old restaurant, Clawsons 1905 and having the same bartender as we did right before picking up Papa San. She remembered us picking up a boat and getting ready to take a boat from St. PETERSBURG AROUND. We said, “We made it and we still like each other!” Something very strange about sitting in the same place in the same chairs and remembering the nerves before embarking on the trip. So, we did a high and low point and unexpected review. It was a funny closing of the circle Beaufort was.
