We arrived in key West in the night with no bow thruster and no steering. We will anchor and not attempt to go to the marina this evening. The waters here are very shallow, and the channels narrow. The signs are not typical either. Sometimes there are so many crossing paths and red is not returning, it can get very confusing. How people ever did these things without technology one can only wonder. One must really focus and pay attention to the moment.
Anchoring was a nightmare. We went to what everyone calls the “bowling alley.” So many boats anchored and not much room for us to slide in. We quickly learned why it is called the bowling alley after anchoring and realizing the boat was slowly drifting anchor and getting closer to another boat. Sean pulled up anchor and moved to another location with hardly any visibility. This time we used both types of anchors to secure to this tricky bottom and we were successful.
