After a wonderful time in Daytona Beach we were off for a long ICW day. Nearing close to 3 months on the road, it is time. It is time to move a bit faster and get out of Florida! The amount of time learning this substantial boat has been so important. However, the looming Florida bad weather, small space, obligations back home, and Florida vib are pushing us to get a move on. Time to move and get to another state.
This leg now sticks in my mind as the bridges and shoals segment with a sprinkle of canals, nature, boaters and bounty. We had multiple bridge openings and sail unders, tricky shoals and viewed the house with a boat dock millionaire bounty lanes along the shore.
One of my favorite slow rides was Haulover Canal. The manatee stopped traffic and were just playing around. Boaters were radioing updates so everyone would slow down and get out of their way. This is not an easy feat in a canal.
We hit 2 shoals of sand. One needs to stay right in the middle of ICW here, especially, after some weather. A fisherman nicely stood up in his boat waving us to move over on our first grounding. As we powered off he pointed the way. That is what one calls “local knowledge”. The 2nd grou ding was supposed to be our anchor spot. That turned into “**** no”! So, the stress of another anchor close to dark in Jacksonville ensued. We conquered and chatted with another Kadey Krogen and ended up in a decent spot (however emotionally and physically exhausted).
