Following the Storm and Finding Unexpected Friends

Timing is everything in life. It was slow coffee in the morning as we checked wind, tides, and the weather. One really learns to respect the weather, wind, and tides when boating. It really is an amazing thing that happens every 12 hours.

We had our tricky exit debriefing to time floating out of this very tight marina spot. It went better than we expected, which is always a relief. We are off to Soutport.

We tried to follow the storm and stay in the sweet spot of low winds and rain. Along the way we noticed a PDQ power caterman behind us. We have a fully enclosed wheelhouse and I felt spoiled as I looked back at their unprotected flybridge. We asked if they wanted to pass and they said we are comfortable at this pace following you. Brave, I commented. “Yes,we feel like Gilligan’s Island”, they said. We shared most of the trip with them.

The other surprise friends were some dolphins that hitched our waves and another boat going back to Virginia. Smooth dock in Southport despite the tricky tides. As we near the end of this trip, we finally have a system! Neither rain nor shine, wind nor tide, Sean finds a way to safely bring us to the dock side!
